Chromecast first thoughts

I had no clue Eddie Griffen was in Armageddon. Yes I'm chromecasting Armageddon from youtube to my tv !

After using the chromecast for a couple of hours, I have to ask why was google trying to charge us 300 dollars for the nexus q. This device looks like it does the same thing.

A coworker asked me why would I would use a chromecast as opposed to an hdmi cable. My obvious response was wireless !! But that is not the only reason to use this little guy.

Using chromecast as opposed to mirroring your device screens helps save resources resulting in a smoother image and the ability to multitask more efficiently. This is very attractive to me since I currently use a CR-48 and I have no plans to upgrade anytime soon unless the pixel comes down in price....hint hint.

Chromecast is built to relay information to your hdtv as opposed to just mirroring your screen, but if you have a need to play local media from your machine you do this by playing media through your browser and casting your screen. The image could be chopping depending on your machine since it has to be transcoded on the fly.

All in all, the little guy works. I can't wait to see what support this device gets in the future, HBO GO maybe.
As of rite now, the device can chromecast from netflix , youtube , and google play tv movies and music.

So yes, go buy a chromecast. It is worth the 35 dollar investment.

Tech fiend !

You heard of sneaker fiend ? Well I am a tech fiend. A tech fiend with a limited budget. (non-profit worker) Which is why the chromecast appealed to me. It sells for 35 dollars and it comes with 3 months worth of nextflix. Only problem being is that it is sold out every where. Place an order today at google play only give you an estimated delivery window 2-3 weeks. Ordering on amazon and expect to get it by Halloween. Of course I had to have this device as soon as possible. That tech itch needs to be scratched !!!

So then began my search for the chromecast. Ebay was telling me pay 100 dollars and I could have it with in a few days ! SORRY not happening. I read that some best buys might have them in stock. Just my luck I live in close proximity to 3 best buy stores. I visited every store and got the same answer no ! That left me one more choice, the list, yeah the craigslist...... that weird place with tags like wfmm.

The going price on craigslist was 65-80 dollars, still a little steep for my blood. But I was desperate. I found one guy selling it for 65 dollars with 3 vouchers to netflix. That 3 months per voucher. I'll do the math for you. That is 24.99 times 3 = 74.99 of free netflix. I could live with that price. I'm actually saving money by buying this. Not the mention the netflix offer is no longer available.

I emailed mr craigslist to see if the device was available, and he emailed me immediately and said yes. We agree-ed to meet in front of supermarket in Manhattan late in the evening. Of course I have a million things to do before I meet him.

Turns out I ended up being about 30 minutes late which was fine, he was late also. I still got there before him. Yes he had the device, and no he did not kid nap me buffalo bill style. I bought the dam thing proudly. Review coming tomorrow !
